BlogRush: The Exiting New Free Traffic Source
By Matt Jones on Sep 16, 2007 in Blog Marketing
At this very moment BlogRush has invaded the blogosphere despite no one having any real evidence that it works. However, from what I have seen BlogRush is very viral and by simply by adding the widget you are gaining exposure. I hate writing about the same thing as several other bloggers, but BlogRush looks too good to resist.
The video on the homepage of blogRush explains the system very well.
In simple terms BlogRush provide a sidebar widget that pulls the title of posts from the RSS feeds of bloggers in your category, which are then displayed on the widget on your blog. Your titles are displayed on the widgets of blogs in your category and so in effect BlogRush is a traffic exchange program. I highly recommend you get your head round the system because fully understanding it makes it a whole lot more attractive.
You Don’t Need A Big Network Of Referrals
When any page of your blog that has the BlogRush widget is loaded, a new set of links appear in the widget. Each page view your blog receives earns you a credit. This means if your blog receives 100 page views in a day, your blog will be shown to on other blogs in your category 100 times in that day via the widget.
By simply adding the BlogRush widget your link is shown an equal number of times to number of page views your blog receives across the blogs in your category. The widget itself also generates referrals because the bottom part of it is clickable.
The 10 Tier Referral system
This is where it gets exiting. If you were to make just 1 referral who places the BlogRush widget on their blog and his blog received 100 page views in a day; your blog will be displayed across the blogosphere in related blogs another 100 times. If your referral has a popular blog, which gets 10,000 page views per day, this will get you 10,000 exposures of your blog across the blogs in your category.
This referral system is 10 tiers deep and so the potential for gaining exposure is immense, but you can still gain significant exposure without making any referrals at all.
At the moment no one has any rock hard evidence that the system works, but as with everything those of us who get in early benefit the most if it does. If the widget does fail to bring a reasonable amount of traffic I will remove it. However, I strongly believe that will not be the case and that you should take advantage of this free traffic source now.
You can see in my sidebar what the widget looks like.

I’ll look forward to hearing how this works out for you. I’m not going to try it because the widget would look pretty ugly on my blog, but it’s definitely an interesting idea.
Michael (I’m 90% sure) you still get traffic from referrals without displaying the widget on your blog.
Yeah, you must. I’ve seen ProBlogger headlines pop up a few times now, and he isn’t using it on his site (But he no doubt referred a lot of people!)
The system is kind of old style. Only re-fresh with the widget like.

But I sure hope this type of tools could generate some small size of traffic for our blog. Large traffic?
I don’t think this tools could help alot. As long as it stay on the sidebar and below fold, the click through rate is as low as our blogroll links.

I think I like it.
I’ve got my blog rushed too… Just thought this is an existing idea which is still under refinement… I once saw a link inside the blogrush talking about the same blog itself!
Ken there is only 1 way to find that out,… waiting for the the stats to appear!
