What To Do When RSS Subscribers Stop Increasing

You may have noticed that the Blogging Fingers RSS subscriber numbers have leveled off. A look at the growth chart below show this happened at when I sold Blogging Fingers for $6000 in Oct/Nov and I became a hired author, rather than owner. Caroline Middlebrook is 100% right when she says that your state of mind effects your blogging. I was blogging in maintence mode.

How To Get Subscribers Increasing Again

I massively appreciate every singly subscriber, but these days you have to offer something really amazing to persuade people subscribe. Whenever I get stuck in a rut or suffer from burnout I do something big to get out of it. After all you can’t wiggle your way out of a rut, you have to JUMP!

Some commonly used methods to increase RSS subscriber numbers are:

  • Put more time into content creation
  • Install a number of plugins that remind people to subscribe
  • Ask readers to subscribe
  • Linking to the feed URL in when leaving blog comments
  • Writing an e-Book and offering it as a subscriber download

I will be taking the most drastic of those options to revitalize Blogging Fingers. I am writing an e-Book. I will be pouring my total of 13 months of Blogging experience into it.

This Blogging Fingers e-Book will be:

  • Focused on one of my favorite parts of blogging
  • Very in-depth - for noobies and experts alike
  • Covering a difficult area of blogging, which also makes the biggest difference in earnings
  • 100% free
  • So useful I may buy some bling for my fingers to reward them.

The name and exact topic of the e-Book is a closely guarded secret. Subscribe to the RSS feed and be the first to read it.

It’s a sad day when this happens especially if you’ve been working your butt off trying to build a site and taking all that kind of advice to increasing subscriber numbers. I work hard on Sciencebase.com and it’s topped out at about 3000. I think at whatever level you reach the plateau you probably have to look to a sea change in what you’re doing and how you’re doing it to get past that sticking point and take it to the next level. This certainly happened when Sciencebase went from an initial 1000 to 1500 and then to 2000 and on to the 3000 spot.

I’d blog about the changes I made at those key points if I knew exactly what had led to the jumps…

3000 isn’t such a sad number to top off at :)

Well it’s pretty simple, the blog used to get almost daily updates I seem to remember but now its seems sporadic.

The blog just kind of ticks over but doesn’t do anything remarkable. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it does seem like a bit of a waste of $6000 from whomever purchased it, but maybe it’s not if the blog’s still making a solid monthly income.

That is a fair criticism. Back to consistent posting it is!

And the blog does still make a solid monthly income, its just stopped increasing with the RSS count!

Top thing is quality content, if you have that readers will subscribe.

I agree with Nirmal, quality content is the best tactic. However, I do wish you luck in increasing subscribers. Also, good luck with your ebook, and as I am subscribed, I cannot wait to read it.

Writing an ebook is also something I’ve wanted to do for a while, but I’m not sure how to go about it and to be honest, I’m too lazy for the work it’ll entail, even if the results will be great. It’s sad, I need to work harder.

Hopefully when my e-book launches and you see all the new readers to Blogging Fingers you will write one too :)
