When Someone Says “eBook” What Do You Think Of First?
By Matt Jones on Sep 17, 2007 in Blog Reviews

In the closely-knit blogging world it’s easy to forget there are eBooks out there other than the ones big time bloggers give away as gimmicks and the rip-offs about getting rich that ‘gurus’ want you to buy. That is why I was so relieved that blog of Gigi Reynard (the sponsor of the main banner advertisement and the buyer of this review) contains information for eBooks about everything.
Advantages Of eBooks For Bloggers
Most bloggers get their blogging ideas from reading other blogs, but books and eBooks stimulate the mind in just the same way. eBooks About offers discount eBooks, and Gigi’s unique description of these books is nearly enough for me to make a purchase myself.
I’m ashamed to admit the only eBook there that I have heard of is The 4-Hour Workweek, and I think we all know why that is. eBooks About opened my eyes to the massive eBook market that is out there and I can see eBooks becoming a possible future hobby of mine.
My Opinions On eBooks About
What I struggle to put my finger on is whether eBooks About is supposed to be a blog, or simply listings of eBooks and their reviews. The difference is to do with the way the posts are written because at the moment you could call it a cross-breed/hybrid.
To turn it into a fully blown blog, with a loyal readership I would use more catchy titles and write the posts in a more ‘extreme/opinionated’ manner (to encourage commenting) and perhaps make use of sub-headings. I would also build up an email subscriber base to whom eBooks could be recommended using Feedburner. I believe being a blog is the aim because the home site links to eBooks About as ‘the blog’.
Upgrading to Wordpress and off of the blogspot subdomain would help. My single biggest regret as a blogger was spending 3 months on a blogspot subdomain when I could have been building something of real value on my own domain. In the long term, it would be a shame to have a lower conversion rate because of the free blogspot appearance after working so hard to raise traffic levels and having written such great content.
Conclusion
I believe Gigi is on to a winner. She is a great reviewer and story teller, with a few minor changes to eBooks About I’m sure it will become worthwhile, if it is not so already.

Geez, I honestly don’t think blogging about ebook is gonna be worth it in the longrun…
I left the site within 10 sec of visiting it, who want to read about someone telling them about ebook?
Up to you though
The idea about blogging ebook is a fresh idea… I just wonder if it can last really long as it requires a lot of reading and looking for a book to write about… But long term wise, she could be making good money out of the links.
Great critique Matt. I would join you in saying that moving to a custom blog solution would be the first good move for eBooks about. At the moment, a Blogger blog just ruins there image, and this isn’t something they want to do.
The other piece of advice, would be to try and be different. I’ve not heard about any sites that offer eBook reviews from consumers - maybe that could be a niche worth targeting. Anyway, just brainstorming here - congrats on having them as an advertiser.
I love ebooks - I make them and sell them - I have a real popular one for a specific cell phone as well - and I make unique ebooks to gain list building
I just dont use those resell right ones - since its all over the internet

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I’m sure Gigi really appreciates it
Great idea on starting blogs with e-books.
