Are Bloggers Throwing Away Millions By Openly Sharing All Their Ideas?

trashMany bloggers build credibility and trust by openly sharing what are in my opinion some very innovate ideas and predictions about blogging. This makes me wonder why they decide to blurt out the idea without actually thinking it though and deciding whether to execute it or not.

I am all for sharing, but I think many bloggers are making the mistake of not capitalizing on their talent for idea creation. I’ve previously skirted around the thought that bloggers are fledgling entrepreneurs.

The reason many bloggers remain that way, is that due to stiff competition. They are desperately in need of new content for their blog which results in bloggers putting every little ounce of themselves into their blog; including their ideas that could be worth millions if they took a big leap, ‘moved up a level’ and carried them out.

This is only really true in the meta-blogging (blogs about blogging) niche, but even so, if you have a great idea why not execute it rather than taking the lazy option and turning it into a blog post?

I make money online from my hobby blogs and websites but I love to share what I learn from others on my blog on blogging and marketing blog.

I don’t make much income from my blog on blogs blog but it’s my pet blog and the place I love to share what I learn from the 60 or so other great blogs I follow.

If it wasn’t for others sharing freely what they know I would probably be earning a lot less.

Yes sharing ’small’ tips and ideas about blogging is a really good thing (thats what this blog is largely about!).

What I mean is bloggers sharing bigger ideas, such as ‘wish lists’ of sites they want to see built in 2008.

You can usually tell the difference between genius ideas and ideas that are just not that great. So put the mediocre ones forward, than the great ones wait for the better, greater good.

Oh so true…as a web developer, blogger, and fledgling entrepreneur, the most important thing I’ve learned in the past couple of years is to keep some ideas to myself.

It’s tough especially for a new blogger, or a blogger that has run out of content, to hold back from posting every bit of detail about their lives and ideas. That’s not to say sharing is a bad thing, it certainly isn’t, but being selective with whom you reveal your “master plan” can pay off big.

We agree there 100% :)

Matt,

I think you’re absolutely right. I mean the fact that bloggers reveal such great ideas is wonderful for us that will execute them.

But I guess the spin here is that if they reveal such great ideas for free, people will be more inclined to buy info products from them if they’re smart enough to release them.

Isn’t that what “moving the free line” is all about? We see tons of so-called “gurus” doing this and it seems to be working in their favor. So maybe we’re not giving these bloggers enough credit. For all we know they have something up their sleeve. lol

Good point Eddy, I’m sure the ‘gurus’ have a master plan but I fear the little bloggers are just copying them and giving away ideas, when then can’t really afford to!
