How To Get A Free PR4 Link With EVERY Comment Your Blog Receives

cocomment.pngRemember yesterday I linked to Dees post about coComment?, which is a service that allows you to track comments you have made on blogs.

Since then I have made a startling discovery. Some of Blogging Finger’s commentators, namely Jennifer from The Life Of A School Bus Driver have been using CoComment to track their comments, some of which were on Blogging Figners. What this has resulted in is my Technorati ranking increasing as I get more and more links appearing from coComment. It happens because the sites the comments are made on are put on the coComment users profile page, giving free links to every site they comment on!

These links are not just worthless profile links; the user profile pages all have a Google PageRank of 4 so they have a real value! However, after a while they slip of the user profile page into archives, but the they are still links nonetheless.

Note: The Link from coComment goes to the individual post page the comment was made on, not the blogshomepage so most of the value is in Technorati Ranking because Technorati includes links to all pages.

You can make the most of this in the following ways:

White Hat Methods

  • Educate your readers about coComment and encourage them to use it and make to make comments on your blog
  • You can to reciprocal deals with other bloggers and online contacts. For example you could agree to comment on each others blog posts while tracking the comments with coComment. This not only gets free links from coComment, but also increases comment numbers too! (I suppose this is slightly ‘grey hat’).
  • Offer an incentive to your readers to use coComment

  • Black Hat Method

You could simply create multiple coComment accounts and then go around commenting on your own blog, getting a link back for every spam comment you publish there.

This could become a problem for Technoratiwho should stop including links from coComment in their rankings because they are so easily gamed.

You could try and make me feel guilty for writing a Black hat method, but I’m half proud of myself for thinking of the White hat methods before the Black hat ones.

P.S. Don’t forget to track the comments you make on this post with coComment.

OK, I’ll give it a shot. I’m just not sure if I need another place to try to keep organized and up to date on.

If I can’t remember a comment I left somewhere, perhaps it’s for the better? Of course, then I wouldn’t be spreading the PR4 love, would I?

I don’t guess I ever have to go check the cocomments page, do I? OK I’m in!

Interesting information. I’m sure they’ll get it straightened out 😉

The info here has been very educational, thanks

    Comment by Jennifer | 2007-09-02 13:30:50

Or… you could just love the services of co-Comment and use it for everything you do. You subscribe to your own RSS feed within it and you get all the responses to the comments you left right in your reader.

The whole entire program is awesome.

It would suck to log in and out to multiple accounts for a few links. The whole thing works so automatic you don’t even have to think about it. I highly recommend it to people who comment and use a feed reader.

Jennifer your hatred of loging in and out cracks me up lol! If I ever create a member site, I will make sure there is a lifetime cookie just for you 😛

I’m sure the Blackhat method won’t last long … Technorati couldn’t let it continue.

After reading it, I activated coComments for all users who leave comments on my Haloscan commenting system. I await with bated breath for it to show up!

I remember a while back it didnt work in Safari, now I m not sure it works in Firefox for Mac either, as I cant see any sign of Cocomment in the dialogue box. Maybe it will surprise me tomorrow.

So how are you building links to your cocomment profile page? Because if there aren’t any links pointing to the profile, it will have no PageRank, no matter what you see in the toolbar. 😀

    Comment by Jeff | 2007-09-10 16:17:34

Greetings, interesting post and theory; however it appears that the links are dynamically built on the profile page with ajax -> l’m not too sure that the crawlers are able to actually see the link(s). Can you confirm the visibility of these links using yahoo, or google advanced search quires?

Currently whenever l try to view a profile on l get a 500 internal server error so l’m unable to confirm my theory by turning off javascript in my browser to see if compensates for bots and users by using the tags; or better yet test the page out with a text based browser (such as lynx:; again to see if the links are actually visible to the spiders.

If you’re interested l will post back with my findings in a bit after is back online and l’m able to do a few tests (damn 500 internal server errors.. :S)

    Comment by Saige | 2007-09-10 17:41:21

I was interested in trying it but I got an Internet Server Error….are they gone?

    Comment by Matt Jones | 2007-09-11 09:14:14

Very good point Jeff, I can confirm the links are picked up by Technorati, which may mean Google can see them too.

    Comment by Jeff | 2007-09-11 23:16:48

@Matt… Yes you are 100% right; these links are accounted for by google (via noscript tags or other means on the web site). However when l try to check and see if l can view a cached comments page from one of googles datacenters, l get strange results:

@Saige… I have the same problem with the site, it’s down very frequently; maybe it’s time they move to a dedicated server.

The funny thing about this is that I found your site through Co-comment. LOL

Although your “black hat” method would work, I find I’m far too lazy to devote that kind of time, and would much rather just go around commenting on other people’s blogs, because that would be so much more entertaining than commenting on my own!

Free PR4 backlinks? Count me in :) Can always use more incoming backlinks and my technorati ranking is only about 76,000 right now so I can definitely use that as well :)

I’ve integrated it but I’m still not exactly sure how this all works. Nevertheless, if it’s as simple as adding a plugin – again, count me in.

The matter of slower laptop or computer is evident for nearly each and every consumer that works on the PC for a long time. The root of the concern is basically in structure of record system as well as code of main applications. Lots of produced non permanent files, back-ups and source duplicates of significant size will certainly impact Main Disc capability. Additional procedures and unimportant programs will definitely cripple RAM capacity from the machine. To fix the issue you have to apply some difficult software that may eliminate unnecessary info cautiously knowing that is unimportant as well as which can be important.

So Obama is going to require a fresh chief of staff. I’m wondering with the new modification we are going to catch sight of a softening in some of the social policies or will it be the identical game as per normal. You cannot blame Rahm Emanuel for aspiring for advanced office as well as a possible opportunity to lead things on his own terms.
