My Cure For Bloggers Block

bloggers-blockWe all know what it’s like when we just can’t blog. Some days the words just don’t come. I find the usual causes are being hung-over, exited about something where you can’t help but dwell on what ever that thing may be, or the ultimate reason for all things bad, stress.

Back in my A level days (UK exams) stress was the no.1 cause of me failing to blog. There were days when I would have had an exam the day before and not have another one for weeks. There is no way I was going to revise and there was no way I was going to blog. At the time, the only answer to over coming stress was procrastination and indulging my inner nerd in playing far too much Halo 1.

Now, however, things have moved on and I have learned how to channel stress into forming a blog post.

Turn What Is On Your Mind Into Something Related To Your Niche

If your blog was about blogging, you would ask yourself, “how can this issue be related to blogging?”. Those of you who are a little more on the ball, probably guessed that this post is an ‘example of itself’. Where the topic I am writing about is stress and blogging, and the issue I am having is stress. (Preparing to go to the Edinburgh festival for 5 days). As you read this I am on my way there now, but don’t worry, Blogging Fingers is prepared and will be updated each day as per usual with some great articles.

Why Is This A Good Idea?

  1. It is easy to write about yourself and whatever is on your mind. This is why there are so many personal blogs. People like to write about themselves. Therefore it is relatively easy to write a post channelling your feeling into something productive.
  2. Writing out an issue helps you sort it out. It is no secret that shrinks (psychiatrists) are there to nod along and get you to fix yourself by talking it out. Blogging can have the same effect.
  3. It’s way better than having no blog post at all. I previously explained Why Blogging Frequently and Consistently Will Double Your Traffic.

Conclusion

The next time you find yourself with out a plan or any blogging ideas, the cure is to work out why you can’t think of anything and write a post about it!

What I just started doing and has been pretty helpful is “free writing”. I simply write what comes to mind without editing. Then I go back and organize all the mumbo-jumbo into something worth reading.
