Plenty of sources give tips about how to rake in the votes on sites like digg and Sphinn. For example, include using numb4r5 in the title or Cutting in the name of a topical online Celebrity

Those Tips Are Great, But How Do We Take It Too The Next Level?

I employed the following tips in the title of this post:

1. Think about what the voters are doing. Before you say, “how do I know if they have been thinking about SEO, monetization or what?” you do know that they are thinking about what story to click. Therefore, the title of this post is pointed directly at social voters, although the post’s content is aimed at social voters and ‘normal’ readers.

2. Voters (Diggers especially) like to have a good flame at someone who has used terminology incorrectly.

Using ‘Black Hat’ or ‘white hat’ in a title encourages clicks because it is very descriptive (among other reasons). It is also terminology. Therefore by putting “Pink Hat” as the first 2 words of a title it creates a split-second of “what on earth is he on about”, which means their attention has been temporarily gained and then as they read the rest of the title, tip no. 1 hits in, luring them into clicking and/or voting for the article.

Now that I have written about it, this little idea of mine has lost some of its value. Just like any idea the more people who know about it or have it the less it is worth.
