Saturday Linking With The NextInternetMillionaire
By Matt Jones on Aug 18, 2007 in Blogging Links
NextInternetMillionaire Episode 1 has been released.
I watched it all the way through but it started to lose my attention a little towards the end. As well as some moderate entertainment value there were a few interesting ‘lessons’ to be learned, such as the ‘Law of straight lines’, where the idea is to aim for somewhere and go straight there, rather than being distracted and going off on tangents.
I Would Have Done The NextInternetMillionaire Completely Differently
Naturally as a blogger I would have liked the focus to be more in blogging rather than internet marketing, but it was also frustrating how everything the contestants did was judged by them giving presentations. I feel this is an unfair way to judge Internet marketers.
If I were running the show, I would have set them an internet marketing task months ago to complete and have them record their progress with screen-casts and Youtube videos and judge the winner on how much money they made; rather than presentation skills, which are only relevant in certain areas of internet marketing.
The Rest Of The Saturday Links
There have been lots of great posts this week, these are were the highlights for me:
Think Like a Gangster: 10 Tips for Success - from Bloggrrl
Personal Branding and the Expert Status: Why You Shouldn’t Call Yourself an Expert is from DoshDosh. It’s nice to see some humility from someone many of us would call an expert.
DoshDosh shows a contrasting opinion to what JohnCow had to say about What Makes You The Expert?, which suggests it’s all about entertainment value rather than becoming an ‘expert with knowledge’. After all, becoming an expert in most fields takes at least 3 years (for a degree, which is just a stepping stone) whereas in blogging 3 years makes you a veteran.

Blogging is a form of social media, which is a new age term under the marketing heading. The show should account for blogging, rss, podcasting, etc.
Exactly Dan, I hope blogging will feature a more important role in future episides; although it will be tough given that blogging successfuly normally takes a lot of time and consistency, and can’t be fairly judged in a quick 1 day contest.
