3 Life Lessons Learned Since Selling Blogging Fingers
By Matt Jones on Nov 9, 2007 in Creative Blogging

I’ve previously written about lessons from the sale, but below are more meaningful life lessons, not quick tips about blog sales.
1. Blogging Is An Addiction, Not A Hobby Or A Job
There are several components that make up this addiction. 1 part is about ego stroking. When you are used to having several 100 or even a few 1000 people reading everything you write, makes starting up a new blog a daunting task. The other part is about the rush gained from knowing that with a blog you own the sky is the limit. Now that I am just a hired gun on Blogging Fingers it means my most enjoyable traffic building tactics are limited. Gone are the days of dreaming up a clever link bait strategy and watching with glee as the traffic and links flow in because the motivation to do these is gone. As Han Solo would say, “it’s got a faulty motivator”.
2. History Repeats Itself.
Just after I started this post, I realized that blogging about what it’s like to not have a flagship blog of my own is exactly how I started Blogging Fingers back on the 2nd July. I look back on that post with some shame because it is pretty melodramatic, but I am sure in a few months I will feel the same way about this post. Just like a religious person believes they live for a greater purpose, a blogger who actually owns their blog, blogs for a greater purpose than the initial earnings. When this blog was my own I new that every decent post would get gobbled up by Google and generally have a long term purpose, despite it sometimes seeming like they were dead in the archives.
3. It Gets Harder To Make Decisions, Not Easier.
You would think that after 4 months more experience of blogging, choosing what to work on and invest in would be easer, but I find it is the exact opposite. Sure, I have more knowledge but that means far more options have appeared resulting in picking which ideas to go with very tough. I’ve found myself scrambling around Entrepreneur.com reading articles like this one about idea overload. This is not because I do not have a plan, but rather because I have too many plans and only a few months to execute them. Perhaps I should take a re-read of my old article about Online Entrepreneurial Decision Making.
You can rest assured I will not stay in this position of limbo for much longer and I will tackle my projects 1 by 1 and let you know when they are ready for launch. For the next month there will be 2 posts per week as well as a few extras. Subscribe to the RSS feed to stay up to date.

I so so much have this addiction. Blogging is the highlight of my day sometimes. Have a great day Matt.
I haven’t heard those words in the same sentence (Blogging Is An Addiction, Not A Hobby Or A Job). And it’s true. It’s and addiction.
Ever since I started a blog, I was never without one ever since.
I know what you mean about #3. It’s hard to decide on what idea to go with first and which one seems to be the most profitable and successful. Best of luck with the new ventures.

Not to be a prude, but wouldn’t it be best for the recipient of the site that you NOT talk about the sale or the price of it?
Blog sales are a hot topic. I write what helps to keep the blog growing.
