Are Your Blog Posts Actually Useful?

Are Your Blog Posts Actually Useful?
The “Usefullness” dellusion
May bloggers including myself have said that making a blog post it scannable, usings lists, catchy headlines, using humour all help to improve a blog post. However, you can see that I did several of those things with the text above and it was useless to everyone who read it. I fear many meta-bloggers (bloggers who blog about blogging) are living in the delusion that just because their posts are nicely bulleted and look pretty people are actually finding them useful.
The truth is, that many list posts receive so many comments and good responses because they convey the information so quickly to the readers because there is so little substace there.
It is just as easy to squash a 5 part series into 5 bulleted posts as it is to trim 5 bullet points into a single paragraph. Don’t trick yourself into thinking you are proving fantastic pillar content just because its beautifully formatted.

it’s so “blah-dy” irritating to see many bloggers churning out useless or brainless posts most of the time. they’ve learnt from other bloggers that a blog must provide information, help your readers or teach them something. is that all about blogging?
suddenly, you find so many so-called meta-bloggers all over the blogosphere. overnight they become experts, dispensing blogging their two-cent tips.
lol (“blah-dy”)! I think it’s down the big name mata-bloggers to warn new bloggers not to just start up a blog about blogging.
Haha Matt that is one cheeky post!
I agree, the so called ‘meta-blogging’ niche is so crouded, everyong thinks it’s ok to just rewrite a post they just read with different formatting.
I think you’ve spotted something there. The ‘usefulness delusion’ as you put it is growing more and more in the blogosphere.
Nope, not useful. Not at all useful…you should come over though for the fun and entertainment. Not because you are needing useful.
Some sites are very cool without being at all useful.
Jennifer that is true, but many bloggers are not entertaining and simply think that because it’s a list they don’t need to be funny or entertaining.
XD
very funny. Blah-king in a Blah-kingdom. But be careful not to repeat this because you will marked as spam by Google or yahoo with the “BLah-Blah” as the spamming keyword!
Good point Ken I need to be careful about that!
Ha! I really enjoyed this post - had to come over from my feed reader to tell you that!
I recently saw a whole blogging *series* of posts that was very pretty and formatted with bullet points, but was completely useless.
I would rather read through a lot of words that really mean something than a useless list of blah-blah.
