Bloggers need Brains: Streetwise Vs Booksmart

All this talk of Feeding your feed got me thinking about food. I’m not talking about chocolate, super noodles or olives (although I could for some time as they are my staples). I’m talking about feeding our brains and not ’stifling the creative muse’ inside of us.
What is he on about?
Maybe I’ve been thinking about food for too long, but Brian from Copy Blogger says, “Reading More Will Make You Write More”. While I do agree with this, I don’t think it covers the point thoroughly enough. What Brian Clark is getting at is that what goes in must come out, or ‘you are what you eat’.
Reading is essentially 1 way of absorbing information. We have been doing for the last 4000 years or so, but the oldest and simplest way of absorbing information is by observing our surroundings. This is why sitting in front of the computer all day causes bloggers block… because you have been acting like one.
Have you ever wondered why there are people who are ‘book-smart’ and those who are ’street-wise’. The reason is simple, those who are book-smart get their experience from reading, which easily translates into writing, the streetwise get their experience from living life outdoors, which easily translates into being sociable and extraverted.
As bloggers, both are needed. Standing out being a little more street-wise than book-smart would be a good thing for most bloggers. It’s not just about what you feed on (pun intended), but where you feed upon it.
What am I suggesting to You?
It’s all too easy to get into the old routine of dunking biscuits in coffee and moving from the computer to the TV screen.
Take my advice and go for a walk on the beach, or a wade in slums if you are so inclined or disadvantaged.
I’m reading articles all the time. I read way more than I write. It’s what inspires me. Good article.
